Art lovers in Indianapolis have come to look forward to the annual “Color Show” that the Harrison Center presents each year on the First Friday of December. Always a festive and fun event, the show features a specific color that is chosen each year as a theme for artists to interpret in the medium of their choice.  This year’s theme is “Onyx + East” in thanks to our new neighbors of the same name that is sponsoring the event. Partnering with Onyx + East, new to the neighborhood,, provided an interesting inspiration for artists.. Onyx as a color can be interpreted as so much more than just black, and artists have been coming up with various interpretations of “East” as well. Eastside Indy, the east coast of the United States and Eastern Asian art are just a few examples of influences in the work being submitted for this show.

One of the most exciting aspects of this show every year is the wide variety of artists and mediums presented in the Harrison Gallery and Annex. This is exactly why curator Kyle Ragsdale feels the show represents the “Personality of the Harrison Center”. The work featured will include that of artists with a wide range of skill level and experience, from seasoned professionals to talented students. Painting, printmaking, mixed media, video work, ceramics and various other 2D and 3D mediums will create what promises to be another imaginative and inspiring exhibit to kick off your holiday season!

Combined with the fact that this is also “Open Studio” night, when you can visit the studio of any or all of the Harrison artists, you’ll want to have the Harrison Center on your calendar for Friday, December 7 from 6:00 – 10:00pm.
