Captured in an Instant
Next month in the City Gallery, we are excited to present Captured in an Instant: Abstract Views of the City by Mooresville, Indiana photographer, Darrell Staggs. Staggs’ images represent what the artist “sees” as an extension of where most people only “look”. His work captures the abstract beauty that is all around, but often missed.
“My inspirations come from the words of Henry David Thoreau: ‘It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see’… ‘Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other’s eyes for an instant?’” Staggs’ desire is to provide visitors with the opportunity to see the world in a new way.
But, we need to train our minds to not only look–and, certainly Indianapolis offers plenty to view–but, to to look for more. It takes effort, but somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be discovered.
The exhibit encompasses an array of themes – reflections/illusions, abstractions found in nature and the built environment, and more. Meet the artist and learn the story behind the image capture. Or, create your own story about what you see when you look at the images. The show opens on Friday, February 2, 6-9pm and hangs through February 23rd.
