Bubbling Over, April Willy
This month, the Harrison Center hosts April Willy’s most recent exhibition, “Bubbling Over” located in the Harrison Gallery. Each of the show's 22 oil paintings has its own unique allure, but all come together to exude a tangible optimism as they shift focus from the actual subject to the overall beauty of the world around it.
April’s work takes on a whimsical style as she captures landscapes and nature shots with a soft, “bubbly” approach.
“I like nothing more than to nestle into an area of my painting, brush in hand, illuminating a twig or softened flower with a magic burst from an unknown light source.”
Willy is based out of downtown Indianapolis. Her studio can be found on the third floor of the historic Stutz Building. After attending the Herron School of Art and Design, she began her work as an advertising and editorial illustrator just after graduating. She has illustrated eight children’s books and from 2015-2017, served as President for the Indiana Artists organization. Willy’s work has been showcased in over forty-five shows and exhibitions and she has received awards ranging from her third-grade Easter egg decorating contest to winning second place at the 2017 Indiana Artists exhibition at Newfield’s, formerly known as the IMA.
