This First Friday, the Harrison Center is excited to be featuring the art of local artist Jerry Points in the Harrison Gallery. Points’ exhibit, The Gathering, features both plein air painting as well as abstracted landscapes which are beautifully designed and alive with color. In his work as an artist, Points is very much influenced by his time both as a teacher at the University of Evansville and also his long career as a graphic designer.

Though Points has always has always had the passion and need to create, upon retirement he opened a studio at the Historic Stutz building downtown and began to engage himself as a painter. While remaining at the Stutz for many years, in 2010, he opened a gallery in Carmel called “Eye on Art” and he has also served in a variety of roles at the Magdalena Gallery. Points now works out of his studio in Broad Ripple.

Points’ paintings have received wide recognition. He has honors form the Hoosier Salon, Indiana Heritage, and Indiana Artists exhibitions. Recently, his painting, "Rainbow Woods" was purchased for inclusion in the Greater Lafayette Museum's permanent collection. In 2017 he received Best of Show at the Indiana Artists Exhibition, held at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. As a plein air painter, he has won awards in several paint-outs, including Best of Show in the Hamilton County and Zionsville Paint-Out. He was selected to participate as a guest artist in the Door County Plein Air Festival in Wisconsin in July 2011 and 2013.

Points’ work will hang in the Harrison Gallery through June 29. We hope you can make it out!
