Get to Know Danisha!

Hello! My name is Danisha McNary, and I am very excited to be an intern at the Harrison Center! My professors speak very highly of this location, and I am excited to be a part of the experience now. I recently graduated from The University of Indianapolis with a BFA in Studio Art. My whole life, I have loved to express myself through my artwork, since expressing myself through words is not as easy. I struggle heavily with social anxiety, and art has been a great way for me to let go and create freely. My strengths are in drawing and printmaking, and I would consider my work to be more surreal than most. I am greatly inspired by René Magritte, as well as Georgia O’Keeffe and Salvador Dali. Outside of creating work, I love learning more about curating, galleries and art history. It all excites me just as much as creating does. In addition to art, I love to work out, bake, and write, whether it be in my journal or just making up a story.

During my time at The Harrison Center, I hope to gain more confidence in myself and around others. I’ve struggled with this anxiety for as long as I can remember, but I have been taking steps to try and find my courage and strength to push toward my goals. In terms of knowledge, I hope to learn more about the business side of art, and I look forward to meeting new people and gaining new experiences. Getting more involved in many aspects of the art world is something I enjoy. Seeing all the amazing artwork is a great addition as well!
