Meet Robert!

Hey, I’m Robert Smith, and I‘m really grateful for getting the opportunity to intern at the Harrison Center! My internship is guiding me towards my future plans of being an architect and artist.

Currently, I am a Senior at Herron High School and was introduced to the Harrison Center by my family and my school. I have always enjoyed learning about the history of Indianapolis and how things have changed overtime. One example is the inside of Indianapolis Union Station in the Wholesale District, which I visited with my father who is a train conductor. My family does house renovations and reconstruction, so that has heavily influenced my goals of architecture.

As a learning artist and future architect, I strive to put my name on art that will make an impact. I am the biggest fan of sketching and people doing innovative things with art that I have never seen before. As I’ve grown my skills in multiple media, I often find myself working in graphite, charcoal, and paint. Although, I have diversified with other art forms such as collage, marbling, digital, modeling, and others. I am hoping to incorporate some of my skills to benefit the Harrison Center while networking to build strong professional relations within my community.

I am very familiar with the Harrison Centers vibes; my junior year of highschool,  my cousin and I came to first Friday to introduce ourselves to Mrs. Taft, the director of the Harrison Center. I am most excited with the Harrison Center’s artistry and communication with artists. I hope to be a great influence to the community and learn more about the culture in which it grew from. Also, if you ever see me around be sure to say hi!
