Introducing Sarah Peacock!

Sarah was first introduced to the Harrison Center when she participated in a creative placemaking project in Mapleton Fall Creek a few years ago, soon after she’d moved from Mississippi to Indianapolis for her husband to pursue his graduate degree in music composition at Butler University. The neighborhood response to the project has stuck with her; people’s surprise and appreciation that their community was being cared for inspired her continued involvement in community art. Now, she’s looking forward to knowing and loving the Harrison Center’s neighbors and the city of Indianapolis in her new role as Arts Coordinator.

She’s already bringing a ray of calm sunshine and organization into our office.

Sarah studied musical theatre in Mississippi, but has had her hand in many art forms, including singing with the Indy Choral Artisans, painting a manhole cover for the DigIndy Art Project (you can spot it in front of YATS on the Cultural Trail on Mass Ave!), teaching junior high choir, drawing with the local artist meetup Drawing & Donuts, and creating a series of 75 tiny paintings inspired by the city of Indianapolis.

She loves the arts scene of Indianapolis for its openness and kindness, where artists and participants all operate as if there’s enough work and inspiration to go around, and they can all help each other to find it. Sarah gets energized by talking to people about their creative processes, biking on the Monon Trail, and following the sun in 100 Acres nature park or one of the many green spaces in the city.

We especially love visits from her beautiful son, Oliver, who comes to play sometimes as the office baby in residence.
