Meet Michael

Hello! My name is Michael Lowery and I am excited to be an intern here at the Harrison Center! I am a singer-songwriter and music producer from Indianapolis. I am also a 2020 graduate of Herron High School. Go Achaeans!

Growing up in church and with music-loving parents, the first genres that I ever listened to faithfully were Christian music and Rhythm & Blues. As time went on, I fell in love with even more genres! I learned to appreciate not only the genres themselves but the history that made them what they are today. I realized that not only did I love to listen to music, but I wanted to learn how to create it. It was very difficult being so young for people to take me seriously, but I needed to find an outlet.

2016 was when I first learned about the Harrison Center. I was doing one of the Harrison Center summer tours with my Summer Academe class. As we began our tour from the City Gallery, we went into the Speck Gallery. I was looking at the art in the gallery and I heard a quiet rumble coming from the red stage. I turned my head around and all of a sudden, there were two people coming out from behind the stage. As soon as they came out, I took a peek into where they came out from and I was “shooketh”! There was a whole entire studio behind the moving wall! I had NEVER seen anything like it! I sped-walked to the tour guide and asked her, “Um...so how can I work there?” She told me to introduce myself to Mrs. Taft. I did so and fast forward a few years later, I am doing what I love to do most!

Since I started in August of 2019, I have worked with a few amazingly talented creatives from near and far. The projects that I have worked on has greatly improved my thought process and imagination. I have also gained relationships with the Greatriarchs. I felt an immediate connection with them, especially with Mrs. Shirley. They all reminded me so much of my grandparents, I couldn’t help but getting to know them!

Even though all of us are unable to be there together at the Harrison Center, I am happy to still be able to connect remotely with my fellow interns! I can’t wait to see what we accomplish this summer!

We are so excited to have Michael around! He has already assisted us in finding some home recording studio equipment and a radio transmitter. We can’t see what else he accomplishes!
