Meet our Food Intern, Elise!

I grew up in the vibrant city of Nashville, TN. Art has always been incredibly important to me, and I hope to one day work as a curator in an art museum and teach visitors about why art history is such an incredible field of study. I also love to create art of my own and think about how it has been influenced by art in the past. I just graduated from college in May of this year with a double major in Art with a concentration in Art History and Philosophy & Religion. I became interested in the Harrison Center when several students at my school had internships here. They would come back to school and tell me all the amazing things the Harrison Center does to remain actively involved within the community and how it cares so much about promoting artists.

This summer, I am the food intern. I am focusing on food both as a form of art and as a way to create a special opportunity for building community. I am also helping the Harrison Center learn more about food safety and have recently become Servesafe certified. I have already used my skills with the Greatriarchs, created several meals for my coworkers, and supported the Board retreat. My focus now is using food to build community. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, my ideas will look a little different and will include creating a cookbook that will highlight our Greatriarchs and their favorite recipes while also calling attention to some of the historic places and businesses that have been integral to the story of Indianapolis.
