SALSA VERDE

This month, the Harrison Gallery and Gallery Annex is hosting its annual group color show featuring more than 150 artists. SALSA VERDE is inspired by flavorful tomatillos, green chiles, and the vibrant freshness of the color itself with its natural range of earthy and emerald hues.

For this year’s color show, the Harrison Center is partnering with the Latino Artist Mentorship Program (LAMP) which is a new artist collective in Indianapolis that was founded earlier this year. Hector Del Campo is a member of the 2023 LAMP cohort and describes it as a “collective sharing insight and knowledge for those of us who are Spanish-speaking.” For Del Campo, being a part of this community has been a great way to connect information and resources regarding shows and how to be a part of the artist cycle in the Indianapolis arts community.

“I’ve been in Indianapolis for at least 12 years, and never has there been a group of Spanish artists that came together and found out about gigs to bring our work to and share Spanish culture on a higher level. I love the idea of sharing what I know and expanding the knowledge of what we can share with each other.” Del Campo is “utterly excited” to see where LAMP goes in the next few years.

Sour Salsa by Hector Del Campo

Enamel paint and acrylic ink

Del Campo’s piece, titled Sour Salsa, uses the symbol of a cul-de-sac that appears in much of his work to represent childhood and as a way for him to reflect on growing up. Going along with the theme of “Salsa Verde,” the piece is infused with playful greens.

For Kyle Ragsdale, Christel DeHaan Curator, the annual color show is a great way to exhibit a broad range of talent in the Indianapolis art community: “I love the color show– We get to have more than 150 pieces from kids to people who’ve been making art their whole lives. I love making those things come together and be harmonious.”

The show can be viewed anytime during the month of December in the Harrison Gallery & Gallery Annex during Gallery Hours: Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The works can additionally be viewed and purchased on our online gallery through December.
