Lunaris
For the months of March and April, the Underground Gallery is hosting several artists whose work celebrates the solar eclipse that will be occurring on April 8, 2024.
One of the featured artists, Henry Dean, also has a sculpture installation outside the Harrison Center titled “Now and Then / Indianapolis” that is one of six placed along the “path of totality” from Maine to Texas. His project celebrates the solar eclipse– From the anticipation of this cosmic event to experiencing its passing, and as a memory marker once it is over. For the Lunaris exhibit in the Underground, Dean shows drawings and the preparatory work that went into the sculpture installation, which has been in process for the past three years.
Other art in Lunaris includes a series of moon-themed collages by Kipp Normand and a variety of ceramic moon jars from Chris DePrez, Kameron Robinson, Glen Burkhardt, Christopher Dance, and Felissa King. Moon jars are an icon of traditional Korean pottery, named for their spherical shape and often simplistic and elegant aesthetic.
The show can be viewed anytime during the months of March and April in the Underground Gallery during Gallery Hours: Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The works can also be viewed and purchased on our online gallery.
