Porch Party Indy, a group exhibit

City Gallery displays place-based art that celebrates the city of Indianapolis. For the month of May, the City Gallery is hosting a porch party group show. This exhibit features a wide variety of artists and mediums, all focusing on our fellow neighbors and homes. We hope you will join us in celebrating art by enjoying this show and community by throwing a porch party.

Porching was first coined in 2014 as a word to describe the action of being out on the porch interacting with neighbors. Naturally, the porch itself becomes a significant symbol for the building of community, as that's exactly what takes place there. It is the entrance into someone’s home. Every porch looks somewhat different, just as the people who own them do. Porches are invitations. They invite people to come in, to sit down, talk, snack, and laugh.

Many of the artwork displayed also incorporates the Indianapolis 500 with signage, black and white checkered patterned flags, and tablecloths. Since 2016,  Indianapolis Motor Speedway has partnered with the Harrison Center to spread porching all over Indiana. Porching season kicks off in May as we celebrate the race and continues until fall.

The show can be viewed anytime in the City Gallery during the month of May during Gallery Hours: Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The works can additionally be viewed and purchased on our online gallery through June.
