Here

For the month of April, the Gallery Annex will be exhibiting Jason Bailey's most recent body of work, titled Here, a series of oil paintings showcasing the moments and places that people tend to overlook.

When working on this series, Bailey noticed the moments when everything else but the subject that he was viewing faded away. This led him to appreciate the things that happen every day, including the beautiful, the ugly, the mundane, and the ambiguity between them. His process is similar to what he captures in that way. He doesn't plan or set out to create a specific moment but rather follows how his subject is lit.

"The light would stop me."

Bailey's work focuses on light and how light interacts with the subjects he paints. He captures these moments in his work by creating a strong visual interest on light, using texture, density, and color in contrast to his subjects.

Along with this, Bailey was drawn into movement for this series. Seeing how light moves, how people move, and how everything around him in the moment would move. "I wanted a sense of movement and like you're there, moving through the scene like it has life to it." In contrast to movement, Bailey invites viewers to stop and "smell the roses" in their lives and slow down when viewing his show to really take in the captured moments and subjects.

Here by Jason Bailey can be viewed anytime in the Gallery Annex through the month of April: Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The works can also be viewed and purchased on our online gallery through March.
