New Horizons

New Horizons by Joy Hernandez is a cosmic adventure with Bean the Astronaut told canvas by canvas. We follow Bean on an adventure of innocence and fun activities. It feels hopeful, and a lot more of a blast then our current terrestrial issues.

Cosmic Bearing

aerosol & acrylic paint

Bean the Astronaut is our tour guide through the cosmos. This show aims to abduct its viewers and take them on an intergalactic journey full of fun and discovery. “A space voyage of escapism” is how Hernandez describes the collection. A combination of aerosol and acrylic give bean his signature look, and add an element of street art to the series. Bean is actually based on real-life astronaut Alan Bean, who was apart of the Apollo 12 mission. Far out!

Lunar Spectacle

Lunar Spectacle brings us to the moon for the biggest race in the galaxy. Bean himself seems ready to take a couple laps around this lunar track. Indianapolis 500 fans know this greeting well, making this cosmic event hit pretty close to home.

Freestylin'

Bean introduces himself in Freestylin. He’s showing some personality in this painting with his guitar perched and ready to play a song. Our man on the moon is looking bold in white against the ruby of the “hello” sticker graffitied behind him.

Space and Stuff

In my opinion, Space and Stuff has the best title in the whole show. The contents of the painting are as follows: space and, you guessed it, stuff. It just makes me giggle looking at it. Joy Hernandez has a special talent for making her viewers smile with her amusing story lines and fluorescent colors.
