Interloper

This month in the City Gallery, experience artist Kipp Normand’s work titled Interloper. Normand is well known for his strange combinations of damaged and discarded antique materials, printmaking, and photography to create shadow boxes and collage with a dark sense of humor.

The show can be viewed anytime during the month of October during Gallery Hours: Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The works can additionally be viewed and purchased on our online gallery through November.

Christel DeHaan Fund for Support of the Harrison Center

Christel DeHaan (1942-2020) was a longtime philanthropist in Indianapolis with a a deep passion for life, people, art, music, and nature.Last Friday evening, the Harrison Center attended the Christel DeHaan Legacy Gift announcement and celebration. We were honored to be one of 13 organizations chosen to receive a gift seeding an endowment.

The new Christel DeHaan Fund for the Support of the Harrison Center will provide support in perpetuity for ongoing gallery exhibits, curatorial staff, and operating expenses. In recognition of this gift, we are pleased to name our senior curatorial position (held by Kyle Ragsdale) as the Christel DeHaan Curator.

Passage

This month, the Gallery Annex features Morgan Binkerd’s oil paintings, primarily landscapes made en plein air. Binkerd’s art-making practices explore the overlap of written and visual mediums. Many of the titles in Passage explore the sense of place in Binkerd’s work– from the seasons she painted through, to how it feels to navigate one’s self in the world, and meditations of spirituality discovered in the landscape.

Deep Currents Live @ The Jazz Kitchen

Enjoy a live performance of Deep Currents by 2022 Joyce Award recipient and Harrison Center Musician-in-Residence Seaux Chill at The Jazz Kitchen on November 4th at 6:30 PM.

Deep Currents is a five-movement audiovisual art piece celebrating the past, present, and future of Black Indianapolis. The project specifically looks at the stretch from Martindale-Brightwood to Riverside, but ultimately includes aspects from all over the city.

Doors open at 5 pm. Seating is limited.

Keepers of the Garden:

The Greatriarchs of Martindale-Brightwood

Keepers of the Garden is an exhibit that celebrates the cultural heritage of the Martindale-Brightwood area of Indianapolis through the stories of its Greatriarchs. The exhibit features a diverse range of art forms and artists, including an augmented reality experience created by Indianapolis-based artist Omar Rashan.
