Old Clothes: Works of Comfort |
For the month of January, Speck Gallery is exhibiting Philip Campbell's large-scale quilts. These works are what Campbell calls socially conscious works of comfort. These double-sided quilts span more than 10 feet and are made of thrifted clothing.
"An overarching theme in my work is the use of traditional craft material and symbolism to make my objects feel safe and familiar as I explore fear and vulnerability in the contemporary world. Old clothes are vessels of memories, and quilts represent home, comfort, memories, and tradition," says Campbell.

The show can be viewed anytime during the month of January in the Speck Gallery during Gallery Hours: Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The works can also be viewed and purchased on our online gallery through February. |

| Leah McMichael⎮Harrison Center Dungeon Gardener |
You have heard of our secret room under the parking lot. The Koi are thriving, but the garden is not. Enter Leah McMichael. There are few things she likes more than plants so she was eager to help. Her only requirements were that we let her wear a hooded clock and name her the Dungeon Gardener. Ok.
Now, in the eerie pink light of the Dungeon Garden, Leah hunts and tends plants that can survive the cold dampness. Though some have described the space as post-apocalyptic, she’s leaning into the “enchanted cave” vibe—the falling waters and the grace of koi complemented by a jungle’s lushness and a few shelves of salad greens. Maybe even mushrooms! Watch this space—if you dare.

For the month of January, Lift Gallery is featuring drawings of Martindale-Brightwood neighbors from Indianapolis-based artists, including Cierra Johnson, Steven Tanaka, Janet Fry, Jesus Sanchez Jr., Angelita Hampton, Johnny McKee, Lori Lee Andrews, and Julia Wickes. This will be the second Drawn to Neighbors installation, first exhibited in January of 2023.
Everyone has a story to tell. This core belief has inspired the Harrison Center to create a weekly space for listening to the stories of long-term residents of the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood and draw our neighbors as a part of the Storytelling Drawing Sessions program.

Eight Harrison Center artists had a joyful time creating works for the Prints Charming show, which is now on exhibit in the Annex Gallery. The exhibition draws the viewer into a beautiful exploration of the multiple ways artists employ this ancient yet evolving art form. An exploration of printmaking techniques reveals a fascinating journey through the annals of human creativity. The evolution of these techniques over the millennia has birthed a diverse range of artistic expressions, each method contributing to the rich tapestry of human artistic heritage.
