For the month of September, Speck Gallery is exhibiting Addie Hirschten's show Visions of Music. This collection of painted pieces, inspired by different classical musicians of African descent, is a collaboration with professional pianist Josh Thompson, also known as Sock Joplin. Hirschten incorporates mixed-media elements in the series by including music scores as the backdrop of some of the pieces, as well as depictions of Thompson. Learn more on our blog.
The show can be viewed anytime in the Speck Gallery through the month of September: Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The works can also be viewed and purchased on our online gallery through October. |

Hello, Harrison Center community and friends! My name is Mallory Kornelis. As the Development and Administrative Assistant, I am the newest staff member at the Harrison Center. I would guess that I am a new face for most people, but some might recognize me from when I was one of the first Harrison Center interns back in 2009.
Much has changed at HC since I was here. The office is no longer the size of a closet and HC has grown both in physical space as well as activity, with interns streaming in and out of the office, doing a multitude of projects from administrative work to stop motion projects. It is exciting to be back in a place that felt like a sort of home to me, but also to see that it has continued to grow and change.

| A Lasting Impact on Martindale-Brightwood |
Thanks to all of you, we met our goal of raising $50,000 by September 14th for the historic Polk building!
Now, the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority will provide a matching grant of $50,000. With these funds, our mission is to create public art murals with local artists, offer augmented reality features, and hold engaging events to further enrich the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood. With your help, we can make Lewis Street and its alley safe and fun through local art. |
