Meet Norah
Hi, my name is Norah Aalsma and I am a new intern at the Harrison Center. I have known about the Harrison Center for a long time, coming with my family to First Friday events. As a part of the dance team at Herron High School I have practiced here almost every school day. I have performed with my dance team at First Friday and have danced at Art Dish with the descending table in the main gallery a few times, too.
One project we had this year was picking a piece anywhere in the building and making a dance inspired by it. The piece I chose was a charcoal drawing of a winged woman in a flowy dress. The dance I created reminded me of that piece. I felt so blessed that we have had a place to dance that is surrounded with art, to inspire our art. HC has been a great place for me to have more dance opportunities and express myself in that way. That is what the Harrison Center means to me. It lets people be creative, it lets people do what they love.
I love what the Harrison Center does for this community and how it helps local artists. During my internship, I hope to be able to be a part of that and I hope I can take away new skills that I will be able to use in my future profession. I don’t know what I want to do with my life yet, but I also want to get an idea of what I like and what I don’t like as much in a work environment through this experience. This experience is exciting and I am thrilled to see what will come from it!
