Meet Macey Davis

My name is Macey Davis. I am a senior at Riverside Highschool. I’ve stepped into the film world, which I am striving to succeed at, and is the reason why I happily accepted this internship at the Harrison Center.

I have loved film and anything that has revolved around it for as long as I can remember. As a child, I was involved in programs like Asante Children’s Theatre, where young children can express their whole selves while gaining knowledge of musical-like events. While I had an amazing time during that program, I noticed that I was starting to fall more in love with the production behind the show. I love the effort that goes into writing, scripting, or even the thought to create something. I fell in love with the knowledge of being able to capture an entire story on a single camera.

There are a million and one films that I can go on about all day, but one film that has inspired me the most would definitely be See You Yesterday by Spike Lee. This particular film captures a young girl trying to travel back in time to save her brother before becoming a victim of police brutality. To say I can relate is an understatement, but to say I can feel her actions has become reality. This is why I admire film and those who pursue it. It’s so much more than just pulling out a camera and hitting record. It gives those who often lose their voice in the real world a way to find it again.

I heard about the Harrison Center through my school and immediately hopped on board when I was given the opportunity to work alongside wonderful creators. So far, I’ve helped with the production of the Harrison Center’s short film “Rasheeda’s Freedom Day,” which tells the story of the Greatriarch Ms. JoAnna LeNoir. Seeing the film and talking to Dija Henry, the film’s director, showed me how film can tell the stories of our city and honor our neighbors. I look forward to extending my knowledge, making life-lasting connections, and growing as a person while pursuing this internship. I am grateful for this opportunity, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
