A Piece of Me

The Hank and Dolly Gallery at the Harrison Center proudly presents A Piece of Me, the first solo exhibit by Juan the Artist. This deeply personal collection reflects his journey of self-discovery and creative growth. The concept for this show stems from Juan's love of art and his desire to introduce viewers to his artistry. "Creating art is so important to me," he shares. "This felt like the perfect opportunity for everybody to get to know me." Anchoring the exhibit is a striking sculpture of an elephant's head sculpted by the artist's grandmother.

Juan's artistic journey began in childhood, tracing pictures from coloring books to give to his teacher, who proudly displayed them in class. Over time, his art evolved to express empowerment, vulnerability, grace, and beauty themes. "I feel it's my responsibility to create pieces that are true to me," he explains. Works like Caged Dreams and Love for the Nap exemplify this, balancing raw emotion and intricate symbolism. Visitors are invited to contribute to the participatory wall, "Best Advice I Ever Had," creating a shared space for reflection and connection.

For Juan, self-discovery is an ongoing journey. "Every challenge requires a new version of yourself," he says. Each piece in A Piece of Me reflects lessons from the past and present, expressed through various mediums. "I want to explore every avenue creatively and try new things," he adds. This transformative exhibit offers viewers a glimpse into Juan's evolving artistry while encouraging them to reflect on their own stories.
