Meet Logan Purcell
Hello! My name is Logan Purcell, and I’m an Americorps Public Ally serving as a composer and administrative assistant at the Harrison Center.
Born and raised in Greenwood, Indiana, I began playing electric guitar at the age of 9 years old. Shortly afterward, I started composing and producing original music, developing a passion for music theory, composition, and home recording.
I attended the University of Indianapolis for my Bachelor’s degree in Guitar Performance, gaining valuable exposure to classical guitar and composition instruction. After that, I got my Master’s in Composition from Butler University, during which I served as the graduate assistant in music theory, tutoring undergraduate students and substitute teaching for Butler’s theory faculty on occasion.
It was during my time at UIndy and Butler that I gradually developed an interest in the arts non-profit world; namely, through the formation of an organization called Sound Ecologies. I was part of the early development of this organization, which commissions composers, performers, and visual artists based in Indianapolis to perform and display their work at concerts, while collaborating with local ecological organizations to promote environmental causes. Through that experience, I fell in love with non-profit, service-oriented work and got connected with Public Allies and the Harrison Center.
My focus here at the Harrison Center will be split between music composition and administrative capacity building. I will write and produce music for promotional videos and installations, and foster musical collaborations through potential concert opportunities at the Harrison Center, as well as assist in maintaining and refining the art sales and curation processes on the administrative side.
