A Canoe Called Joe
Local artist Geoff Davis may be best known for his long-running series of lifelike, exquisitely hand-carved wooden birds -- 50 Little Birds -- but he’s also a folk musician and a brilliant story teller. This summer, as a 2014 recipient of the Lilly Teacher Creativity Fellowship, Geoff travelled 420 miles through Quebec and New England paddling a vintage canoe (he has aptly named “Joe”) hoping to find birds that would inform and inspire his work. According to Geoff, “though the birds and other wildlife were spectacular, [I] found unexpected inspiration in the people that [I] met along the way.” This Friday night at the Harrison Center, come listen to Geoff share his stories at 7:00 p.m. just outside the main gallery.
