Underground features International School of Indiana
At the Underground Gallery in the Harrison Center for the Arts elementary students from the International School of Indiana (ISI) are exhibiting a series of work, titled Art Is Around the Corner, focused on self-expression this coming Friday. Spearheaded by art teacher Giselle Trujillo, students are presenting varying mediums within the different grade levels. Originally from Venezuela, Trujillo, whose background in sculpture, dance and art and stage direction for TV and film, guides the students in exploration of mixed media. The elementary art program at ISI gives students the opportunity to work with found objects - re-purposing recycled or discarded items - to create their own techniques in self-expression.
In Art Is Around the Corner students from 2005 to present day participated in creating a collection of murals. The murals are pieced together like a quilt - highlighting tonality and geometrics. Additionally, students between 4th and 7th grade collaborated to form wire sculptures.
In conjunction with the IDADA First Friday, ISI student art will be on display beginning April 5th. Live music from Let Me Fight In Peace, Luis Miguel Delgado, Blue Sunshine, Randy Harrison, The Constants, Lori Tapscot, JJ FlynnGo, and David Wessel will be featured at the opening and closing receptions. At the closing reception on April 19th, individual works and videos from students will be highlighted.
Come to the Harrison Center for the Arts to see International School of Indiana's Art Is Around the Corner in the Underground and visit all of the other Harrison Center galleries on April 5th from 6pm-9pm.
