Food, Culture and Community: Mimi Blue's Meatballs
Today was Andrew’s and my last food, culture, and community review, and we decided to go out with a bang by making Mimi Blue Meatballs our restaurant of choice. Mimi Blue is a very recent establishment in the Mass Ave. area, but don’t let the newness fool you! The service and food is off the charts awesome. The interactive menu, mainly based around different meatball dishes, adds to the experience as the diner must check off the food options they desire with a dry erase marker. Everything on the menu is fresh, cooked to order, and it always features a rotating special. From your soup or salad choice to your meatball and side selection, and all the way to dessert, you will enjoy and savor every single bite.
What is equally as interesting as the delicious menu is the story of Mimi Blue. The story begins with Mildred (Mimi) Bluestein Kosene. Mimi was born and raised in Indianapolis, and as the story goes she was endowed with manners, taste, and a wealth of social grace. Always a lover of good food, Mimi found pleasure in both dining out, as well as in, cooking for friends and family. Today, Mimi’s hospitable legacy lives on in her namesake at 874 Massachusetts Avenue as a restaurant that captures the type of old-world urban setting that she loved so much. In all of this, Mimi Blue Meatballs is as authentically Indianapolis as it gets.
So head on over and grab a few meatballs for dinner, and we promise you will experience that small town in the big city feel that makes urban Indianapolis such a great place to live.
