Fort Wayne Floral
Petal Pushers, this month's group show in the Harrison Gallery, introduced a new (to us) artist in Fort Wayne-based watercolorist, Diana Miller-Pierce. Harrison Center curator Kyle Ragsdale describes Miller-Pierce's work as "technically amazing watercolors that are both painterly and ultra-realistic."
Candy Stripes and Roses
Ragsdale goes on to say, "The color draws you in from really far away because of the sheer size of the paintings. On closer examination, you see that she captures the lilt and elegance of each petal seemingly effortlessly. Her paintings are fairly lifelike without being labored–there is an elegance of economy to the work. The other really wonderful thing about her work is the color which is really fresh, clean, springlike. In a gallery full of strong work, these pieces definitely hold their own."
The Heart of the Matter
Miller-Pierce's website describes the method she employs to achieve these stunning results, explaining, "Her watercolor techniques draw from the English method of watercolor which consists of a series of washes built up in color and intensity until the painting is complete. Some areas of a painting may receive 20-30 layers of paint."
Drenched in Pink
If you missed the opening, not to worry. Petal Pushers hangs through April 28 with gallery hours Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. We hope you'll stop by.
