In Your Own Backyard
We will be kicking off our fall arts season this Friday, September 6th with our First Friday artist reception. This month, the theme will be In Your Own Backyard with an artist reception and open studios. In the Harrison Gallery, one of our very own artists, Kyle Herrington, will be displaying some of his work. The exhibit he has created is called Backyard Phenomena. It is an exhibit of paintings and sculptures that are "an attempt to replicate the imagined ruins left in the wake of unnecessary panic, terror and hopelessness. Twisting the notions of run-of-the-mill crises and nervous breakdowns into the context of a cataclysmic events allows these works to be both jokingly playful and deadly serious at the same time; much like the current perspective of my peers on their own self-imposed troubles and calamities." We are excited to have such a talented artist under our roof and to be able to display some of his work.
Kyle graduated from Ball State University in 2006 with a BFA in Painting. He was also a Beckmann Emerging Artist Fellow in 2008 and 2012 Indiana State Museum Artist-in-Residence. Kyle exhibits regularly throughout Indianapolis and regionally, and is involved with many local arts organizations. He teaches paintings classes at the Indianapolis Art Center and serves as the Exhibitions Associate and Artist Committee Chair for the Broad Ripple Art Fair. And of course he is a resident artist at the Harrison Center and we are thrilled to have him here.
We will also be displaying work by Tom Peck, Kimber Shaw, Hannah Burnworth and Jude Odell in the Gallery Annex. Built, Building, Build - new work by Kathryn Barnes Dart will be shown in the City Gallery. In Gallery No. 2 you will find the Bindery, a pop-up co-working initiative for Indy's design community. Robots 2 will have group show in the Underground and to top it off there will be new work by Kimber Capuchino in Hank & Dolly's Gallery.
