Let Me Paint You a Picture
Elyse Rhoades was looking for an internship on short notice so she went to her neighbor, of course, and was connected to the Harrison Center.
Elyse was born in Danville and moved to Avon where she has lived her whole life, but is happy to have had the opportunity to travel to places like the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic. She is a student at Avon High School and is planning to attend Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan this fall to study art and marketing/business. In her internship at the Harrison Center, she was quick to develop a friendship with Libby Bowling (another Harrison Center intern) who has grown up in urban Indy on the near east side. Libby took Elyse under her wing and started showing her all of the awesome things that urban indy has to offer.
The focus of Elyce’s internship has been creating portrait drawings of the HCA staff for use in social media and blog postings. In addition, her intent has been to learn more about the art community here. Some fun facts about Elyse are that she likes to run, paint and draw. Her favorite book is All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven and when asked to describe Indy in six words she chose: busy, friendly, circular, eventful, inclusive and productive.
