Looking up College Avenue
This month in Hank & Dolly's Gallery, check out current and historic pictures of College Avenue, taken by John Sherman and Mayowa Tomori. The show is a great opportunity to learn about their project, Looking Up College Avenue (LUCA), an interactive treasure hunt and unique approach to the study of historic preservation. Their shared love of history, preservation, neighborhoods and architecture inspired them to create LUCA. Both Sherman and Tomori are writers and photographers with a wide variety of interests.
The treasure hunt is designed for 4th graders to adults and you are invited to join the hunt. In the process, you will view historic photos of the structures, learn about the what the neighborhoods were like decades ago, and see the changes that have occurred along one of Indianapolis’ most historic streets.
Free booklets and leader guides are available at the Harrison Center for the Arts. PDFs of the booklet and leader guides are also available for downloading at www.indianahistory.org/LUCA. You can follow the project on Instagram and Twitter (@LUCAhints) and on Facebook (Looking Up College Avenue). If you have further questions please email LUCAhints@gmail.com for more information.
This exhibit can be seen through May 27th.
