Monon16: Front Porch Homes Initiative
The warm weather has finally arrived, porch party season has officially begun, and King Park Development Corporation is bringing the Monon16 neighborhood into the “porch party” movement through its Monon16: Front Porch Homes Initiative.
If you aren’t familiar with the Monon16 neighborhood, its boundaries consist of College Avenue to the west, Dr. Andrew J. Brown Avenue to the east, 16th Street to the south, and 22nd Street to the north. If you start at the City Gallery, all you have to do is head east down 16th, past the Foundry Provisions and Tinker Flats, cruise on by the 16 Park community and you’re there!
The Monon16: Front Porch Homes Initiative, intended to create affordable housing with intentional development to deter crime and promote neighbor interaction, will rehabilitate 7 homes that will be sold to low- and moderate-income buyers, and will also provide homeowner repair grants to 8 low-income homeowners. By accentuating front porches and good landscaping, KPDC hopes to promote outdoor activity, get neighbors talking with each other, and begin a vibrant porch party scene in Monon16.
