August 2016: Every Trick in the Book
The Harrison Center and the IUPUI University Library present “Every Trick in the Book,” a group show. Work from over 15 artists was chosen for this show to take place in the Speck Gallery (formerly Gallery No. 2). Opening night, there will be a selection of books from the Herron Art Library’s permanent collection as well.
Encompassing a wide range of media, artists’ books are works of art that are sometimes realized in the form of a book, but not always. These works are usually published in small editions, though sometimes they are one-of-a-kind objects. Artists’ books have employed a wide range of forms, including scrolls, fold-outs or loose items contained in a box. Creative writing is often part of the artists’ book concept, including poetry and essays and playful text. Though artists have been active in printing and book productions for centuries, the artists’ book is primarily a 20th century form.
The Harrison Gallery presents the place-based work of painter Jed Dorsey. Roads, Rivers, Paths (& other places I love) is Dorsey’s first exhibit since recently becoming a full-time artist.
The City Gallery is proud to present Printed City, work by the 67th Street Printmakers.
In the Gallery Annex, Jeannine Allen’s impressionistic naturescapes and Maple Crossing: en plein air.
Hank & Dolly’s Gallery features an installation by Adeleine Sinsabaugh and Tucker Krajewski inspired by the areas highlighted in the summer podcast series, Inquiry.
The work hangs through August 26.
