Bracing for Hope by Yeabsera Tabb
Hope is a complex subject. So too are many other themes Tabb wrestles with in the show, Bracing for Hope: the concept of “home,” kinship, nostalgia, and the intersections of beauty, pain, and anger. She does this well, with understanding beyond her years. Throughout the exhibition, she weaves snippets of her unique story into thoughtful and contemplative works using ink, watercolor, charcoal, thread, woodcuts, and more.
Learn more on our blog and in our latest Artist Talk where artist Kyle Ragsdale and Yeabsera discuss this exhibit.
Bracing for Hope is on display in the Harrison Gallery during the month of February. Works are available for view and purchase in-person and online through our online gallery. Gallery hours are 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
Presenting New Greatriarch, Charles Tony Knight The Greatriarch project reminds us that every neighbor has a story that deserves to be heard. The Harrison Center has added six new community members to this group. These community members were included in this series because they have helped write their neighborhood stories and invited others in to bear witness to their histories. Today we welcome Charles "Tony" Knight. Tony is someone who deeply cares for his community. He has dedicated his life to the education of children and has thoughtfully sought to create spaces in which learning and care are fostered for those in the Indianapolis educational systems. Knight has been recognized by his community with awards including (but not limited to): the 1994 Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Award for Community Service, the 1994 Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis Senior Service Award and a 1993 nomination for the United Way of Central Indiana’s Volunteer of the Year Award. The Harrison Center is pleased to announce our seventh year of partnership with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to promote Porch Party Indy and the Indianapolis 500.
Thanks to our friends at the IMS and Indiana Dairy for letting us join in on the #100Bottles celebration to celebrate 100 days (now 97 days) until the Indy 500.

One of our latest projects is an over-the-top photoshoot featuring the Greatriarchs shot by Harrison Center artist-in-residence Caleb Smith.
The Greatariarchs were each dolled up in glamorous and theatrical outfits provided by local costume designer Stephen Hollenbeck. It was a joy to watch them bring their energy and personality into this photoshoot. We can't wait to share this project with you all. Stay tuned!
IndyStar Storytellers Event March 8th
Storytellers Project is a nationwide series of live storytelling events featuring neighbors and notables sharing personal stories. What makes them unlike any other storytelling event is that USA TODAY Network journalists curate and coach the tellers to develop stories that serve their communities. They help people tell true stories about who they are, what they do, and why it matters.
This years event will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 8th at the Indianapolis Art Center and will feature six storytellers including Miss JoAanna Lenoir. Now, at age 73, she will share her childhood story of growth through adversity to help others not suffer in silence like she did for so long.
You can learn more about the lineup here. Tickets are on sale now at storytellersproject.enmotive.com. Donate to the Harrison Center Our Contact Information |
