Stacked Houses by Will Carpenter
“Houses work as an excellent visual metaphor for life” Will Carpenter describes his ever-evolving collection Stacked Houses. This collection presents compelling possibilities from painting to drawing to a combination of both. Stacked Houses explores the profound allegory embedded in the concept of houses as dwelling structures. “Like us, houses are active and alive: they grow as we build them, they repair as we fix them, they wear down as we live in them.”

Stacked Houses will be in the Galley Annex at the Harrison Center through the month of April. Come through in person or check out the online gallery.
Oral Histories The isolation of the past year was so hard. So many of us felt separated from our communities. As we are reopening from COVID, we want to help our neighbors connect in even more intentional ways. One of our efforts is continuing our partnership with the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood to support a movement of oral histories for families and community.
Could your family or community benefit from documenting its history? Use our Oral History Kit to start recording your own story.
Meanwhile, save the date for Saturday, June 4, 1-4pm for our 3rd genealogy/oral history talk. Stay tuned for more details. Porch Parties are Back! Start planning your May porch parties and decor now. With the weather warming up, we can’t wait to get back on the porch again. As always, May marks the beginning of our return to this fun, community-building Indy tradition. Decorate your porch to celebrate the season and porching partnership with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Watch our social media to learn how to win prizes.

As a non-profit, the Harrison Center relies on volunteers to run our free events smoothly.
If you want to give back to the community and support local artists, consider donating a couple of hours of your time on May 6th on First Friday. Whether volunteering as a greeter or gallery attendant, our volunteers help make everyone feel included.
And as an added bonus: we offer gift cards to those who volunteer more than five times per year. Hours volunteered may also be applicable for service hours you might need.
Water from the Rock, an exhibit of RSA
The 2021-22 Religion, Spirituality and the Arts Seminar (RSA) culminated in an exhibition that opened at the Harrison Center's Speck Gallery on April 1. A cohort of 13 artists studied with Rabbi Sandy Sasso and IUPUI faculty members to create works centered around the theme of “Water From the Rock.”
Learn more about this exhibit on our blog.
This year’s exhibition is dedicated to the memory of RSA alumna Jacquie Reed and will remain on display throughout April. All works are available for purchase in-person and online through our online gallery. Donate to the Harrison Center |
