We would love your help as a volunteer on First Friday. Your role could be to help with sales, greet people as they come in, or direct them to the next gallery. Our volunteers are an integral part of First Friday - they make it possible! *Learn more about the Spectacle of Homes here.
Macey Davis and Weatherhouse Co. I’m Macey Davis (pictured left) and I’m an 18-year-old aspiring movie writer/director and Harrison Center intern. I found out about Weatherhouse Co. through Tiera Hollanquest (a friend of the Harrison Center) and immediately jumped on board. They gave me the opportunity to write a full script for a short film, which will be submitted for review through the Heartland Film Festival!
It started with short zoom meetings, to coming up with film ideas, to actually writing the script. This was my first ever time even putting something like this together, let alone be given the opportunity to work on an actual set with so many talented people. If selected into the Festival, it will be displayed at the Heartland Film Festival in July! Overall working with Weatherhouse Co. through the Harrison Center has been the best experience ever and I could ask for a better opportunity. Secret Room Koi Pond We have a secret. Ours is a "Secret Room" located under our historic smokestack. Recently, this quirky, dark and damp space was annexed to the studio of Owens and Crawley for an installation space. Tour it on First Friday and see signature light installations as well as TWO balanced ecosystem koi ponds.
The installation includes grow lights, plants, a living wall, and of course plenty of happy koi. In the words of the Owens and Crawley duo, "Who doesn’t need a place to meditate and ponder life?"
Thank you to the Lilly Endowment and Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation for funding Convertible and this project. Storytelling Drawing Sessions
To cultivate community through art, we feature long term neighborhood residents who share their stories while artists listen and draw. The Storytelling Drawing Sessions format allows artists to grow their technical drawing skills but also develop their listening and empathy skills.
The sessions are held weekly, alternating between Friday afternoons and Wednesday evenings. Our next few sessions will feature community members such as Rhonda Seward, Rosemary Turentine, Richie McCombs, and Pat VanDoren.
Artists interested in participating can sign up to attend.
Become a Porch Party Ambassador
Porch Party Ambassadors encourage others to gather on their porches with friends and neighbors, share food and drink at their own porch parties, and help cultivate a sense of community in our urban neighborhoods.
How to become an ambassador:
