I am in no place. by Gigi Salij
In her newest body of work I am in no place., artist Gigi Salij explores classic Indianapolis landmarks and helps us discover something new and unfamiliar within them. These pieces explore how signs are a significant part of our everyday lives, yet we don’t often recognize them as such.
Learn more about Gigi and this exhibit on our blog.
With this body of work, Salij hopes that people will see familiar sights in new ways. I am in no place. is on display throughout May in the City Gallery at the Harrison Center. Stop by to view it in person or visit the online gallery.
Porch Party Giveaways We teamed up with Indy Urban Hardwood Company to present “Porch Party Platters.” Local artists have painted large charcuterie platters made from reclaimed wood. Each platter represents the artists’ own style, and sales benefit NXG Youth Motorsports.
Now is your chance to win one of these platters! To enter all you have to do is host a porch party, post about it on social media (facebook, instagram, or twitter), use the tag #PorchPartyIndy, and tag the Harrison Center.
Five winners will be chosen on Monday, May 23rd. Each winner will be able to choose which platter they'd like from our online merchandise shop. Good luck! Kyle Ragsdale Featured in Florence, IT Exhibit This Tuesday, Harrison Center Artist Kyle Ragsdale will have his work featured in a show in Florence, Italy. The exhibition will be held by SRISA Gallery and is titled Nine/Twentytwo - showcasing works from SRISA's 2022 printmaking masterclass.
We are excited to see one of our resident artists represented internationally in this venue. School 26 Documentary Viewings
Our neighbors at The Oaks Academy Martindale-Brightwood Campus, will be showing a screening of The Glories of Our Journey: A Community Story this evening. This documentary explores a decades-long story of community at its best: John Hope School No. 26 and the Paul Laurence Dunbar Library, bound together by a flourishing neighborhood and a spirit of love and resilience.
While this screening is not open to the public, as they are reserving seats for School 26 alumni (this includes the Greatriarchs!), if you are interested in viewing the documentary you can register to attend a second viewing at the KAN-KAN on May 18th.
