20 Years with Kyle Ragsdale, Christel DeHaan Curator

The Harrison Center is pleased to name the senior curatorial position (held by Kyle Ragsdale) as the Christel DeHaan Curator thanks to the new Christel DeHaan Fund for the Support of the Harrison Center. Not only is the Harrison Center excited that Ragsdale holds this title, we are also grateful to be celebrating 20 years of Ragsdale’s presence in the Harrison Center community.

Ragsdale reflects on the early days of curating for the Harrison Gallery: “We started making art shows where everyone could feel comfortable and not too stuffy. It’s exciting to see people buy the first pieces of art they’ve ever bought at the Harrison Center.”

Where We Find Joy

Sarah Anderson’s collection of ceramic wall hangings, titled Where We Find Joy, is on display in the City Gallery for the month of November. Anderson is an artist with a BFA in sculpture that is venturing into new territory by shifting away from functional ceramics and creating decorative wall hangings depicting playful characters from her imagination.

2023 Greatriarchs⎮Wiletta Atkins

The Harrison Center is excited to announce the induction of six more new Greatriarchs this year. The Greatriarchs are long-term residents of the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood. They are leaders, nurturers, mentors, and friends to the old and new residents of their neighborhood.

Meet Wiletta Atkins.

"Ms. Wiletta Atkins is brimming with soft power. Despite being rather reserved, she serves as President of Oak Hill Civic Association. She has a calm, dignified presence like the women in the works of Laura Wheeler Waring. I used the floral background elements of Waring to bring Ms. Wiletta’s poise to the foreground" - Artist Cierra Johnson

Indiana Plein Air Painters Association Exhibit

The Indiana Plein Air Painters Association is having its annual show in the Underground Gallery during the months of November and December. IPAPA is a group of plein air artists across Indiana that are interested in working from the landscape. IPAPA is dedicated to the education of Indiana plein air painters and their support as well as the reawakening of an appreciation for Indiana landscape based on its rich history.
