In his exhibition Acceptable Decorations, Quincy Owens presents mixed media works that make the viewer question their perception of art. Art comes in many forms, and Owens embraces this sentiment through colorful, abstract works that allow the viewer to create their own interpretation of each piece. The title Acceptable Decorations offers one interpretation, but Owens encourages his viewers to ask what art is to them. When you look at art, what do you see? What does it invoke?

Studio Notations is an experimental body of work for Harriet Watson as her art-making practice evolves toward abstraction. Watson explains the shift she has felt in her work: “My work before this has primarily been self portraits where I was trying to figure out who I was at the time and wanted to channel my experience as a black woman into my work. I used to focus on my literal self and my identity.” Now, Watson doesn’t want to focus on herself or personal expression; rather, she wants to pull from outside sources for inspiration.

Polklore Micro-Museum: Pilot Phase |
On June 5th, the Harrison Center unveiled our newest venture, the Polklore Micro-Museum. Learn more about Polklore launch event in this IndyStar article.
Polklore is a partnership with COhatch Polk Stables in what was the old horse stables for the Polk Dairy. The purpose of Polklore is to preserve neighborhood history. For this project, neighbors chose the stories and artifacts to be preserved, and artists wove those artifacts together into an extensive art assemblage installation. Each artifact in the installation can be scanned with a cell phone to access a video of the neighbor telling their own story, using augmented reality technology.
Help us use the pilot phase to test the museum concept and technology. Please schedule your museum appointment on our website. |
