Take Out

For the month of June, the City Gallery is exhibiting Take Out by Lindsey Lord. Using materials often received when enjoying the modern conveniences we experience on a daily basis, Lord hopes to shed light on the endangered flora of Indiana, which is gradually losing its natural habitat due to our unsustainable practices. By repurposing the materials that we use without much thought, she hopes to encourage us to take responsibility for our actions and create a more sustainable future for ourselves and the environment.

The show can be viewed anytime in City Gallery during the month of June during Gallery Hours: Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The works can additionally be viewed and purchased on our online gallery through July.

Make Music Indy

Bring your own lunch and enjoy a live musical performance by Grace Graves this Friday from 12-1 pm on the Harrison Center front porch. On Make Music Day, musicians of all ages and skill levels share their love of music with communities around the world through free music performances and events on June 21.

Make Music Day began in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique and is now celebrated on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries. Make Music Day made its American debut 19 years ago in New York. Since then, over 100 cities throughout the country have established city-wide celebrations providing free music listening and music-making opportunities for the community.

This is the second year Make Music Day will be recognized in Indianapolis as a city-wide event. For more information about Make Music Indy, including a complete list of performers and event times, please visit

Meet Laurence Apple

My name is Laurence Apple. I am going to be a junior at Butler University majoring in Arts Administration with minors in Art + Design and Music Industry Studies.

My academic year internship at the Harrison Center has been a great experience, providing me with a cross section between my interests and studies, allowing me to use my creativity to connect people with the arts. The Harrison Center has been a great stepping stone for developing my academic and professional experiences, meeting and working with amazing people, which I have been so grateful for. Continuing this summer I will be a full time intern…I am not sure where my career will take me, but I know that art and music will be a key part.

Outside of school, I am a multimedia artist, focusing in visual arts, poetry, and music and I am an avid music listener.

Flora + Terra

William Denton Ray, an illustrator and designer by trade, is turning away from the clean-cut nature of advertising art toward a more stylistic scene with prominent swarms of forms that feature natural themes amidst seemingly otherworldly elements. Exhibiting his work within the Annex Gallery throughout the months of June and July, he’s continuing his evolution of a long-learned craft in his show, Flora + Terra.
