A Legacy Continued: Reinvesting in Martindale Brightwood |
Paul and Shirley Webster, Greatriarchs of Martindale Brightwood, are reinvesting in their community. Last week, they gathered family and friends for a groundbreaking of a new home on Hillside Avenue. With this project, the Websters continue their family legacy as neighborhood leaders, and invest in the next generation of residents by planting more roots in Martindale Brightwood.
At the event, remarks were given by Miss Shirley, Pastor Kenneth Manual of 25th Street Baptist Church, Pastor Kenneth Sullivan of New Directions Church, and Deputy Mayor for Neighborhoods, Judith Thomas. Nabil Ince ("Seaux Chill"), Joyce Award recipient, performed a song dedicated to the Greatriarchs. Grace Graves, Harrison Center intern, performed a dance to Victory Lap. Associate Curator of European Art, Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, Kjell Wangensteen, and artist Jay Parnell spoke with our artists about Parnell's September Harrison Gallery exhibit. The two engaged in an informal conversation about art history, visual symbolism, and the many ways in which art can reference something larger than ourselves. Wangensteen paid a visit to Parnell's studio preceding the conversation, and came prepared to ask a lot of thoughtful questions.

The City Gallery porch is ready for a crowd. Art duo, Owens + Crawley designed and fabricated new tables to support Hoosier hospitality. The tables are original designs with a unique take on a classic picnic table. We can't wait to host more front porch moments with artists and neighbors. |

Shadow Pass Mobile Community |
In the Hank & Dolly's Gallery, Chad Campbell's wire figures tell a story of movement, innovation, and adventure. These 3-dimensional installations interact with lighting in unique ways to produce moving shadows on the walls behind them. Watch this video tour of the exhibit, created by intern Tristan Wilcher, featuring original music by Wilcher. |
