Indy Shorts Chooses Rasheeda's Freedom Day We are proud to announce that the short film Rasheeda's Freedom Day will be in the Indy Shorts International Film Festival. You can purchase tickets here for the Indiana Spotlight 1 program screening at 2 pm on July 23rd. Don't forget to vote for Rasheeda's Freedom Day for the Audience Choice Award! Rasheeda's Freedom Day is a film produced by the Harrison Center that tells the story of Greatriarch Joanna LeNoir escaping an abusive situation to find freedom and community in Martindale Brightwood. Reimagining the Quotidian Two photographers, thousands of miles, and countless stories later, Lesley Ackman and Charles Yang are exhibiting their show Reimagining the Quotidian in the underground gallery throughout July and August. The series is part documentary and part environmental photography. Ackman and Yang use their cameras to elevate everyday moments; hoping to guide the viewer into a deeper reverence for the seemingly insignificant moments in our day-to-day experiences. The Abstract WE ARE INDY ARTS "WE ARE stronger together," is the motto for artist collective We Are Indy Arts — a group of local African American artists whose newest exhibition The Abstract is on display for the month of July in Speck Gallery. The show is a dizzying deep dive into visual abstraction, featuring the work of artists Anthony Radford, Bruce Armstrong, Mijiza Holiday, Latoya Marlin, Gary Gee, Omar Rashan, Rebecca Robinson, and Lenny White. Read more about The Abstract here. Celebrating Black Expo The Harrison Center celebrated this summer's Indiana Black Expo with a group show selected from its studio artists. The Cultural Pavilion show was full of color, texture, energy, and movement. Indiana Black Expo is a voice & vehicle for the social and economic advancement of youth & families in Indiana. We're proud of the artists involved in this phenomenal showcase. Songwriting for a Community Martha Grace Curtis, or "MG," is a recording artist who has spent her summer internship writing songs about Indianapolis. She has already written 5 songs, so stay tuned as we unveil them at the end of the summer. Read her blog to learn more about her.
