Nabil Ince and the Harrison Center Announced as Recipients of 2022 Joyce Awards The news was broken by the Chicago Sun-Times and picked up by over 350 media outlets nationwide. This $75,000 grant will support the creation and presentation of Deep Currents, a collection of five songs and accompanying music videos that Nabil will create as part of a songwriting residency at the Harrison Center. The project aims to amplify stories from three historically Black neighborhoods in Indianapolis, harnessing multimedia art to combat cultural erasure and gentrification. Read more here.

These works are available for browsing and purchase on our online gallery. Oral Histories with Rain Wilson One of our summer projects is collecting oral histories of our long term neighbors. We are so happy to have intern, Rain Wilson, an Anthropology major, leading this. She will interview long term neighbors as well as provide resources to help people assess their personal and family history. This pilot project is a partnership with the Central Library and funded by Indiana Humanities and the Nicholas Noyes Foundation. We hope to see Indianapolis grow as a place that knows and honors neighbors' stories. Read Rain's bio to learn more about her. IMAF Volunteers With the Independent Music + Art Festival (IMAF) approaching, we're on the lookout for volunteers to help make this event run smoothly. Volunteers handle a variety of responsibilities, such as acting as stagehands, monitoring galleries, and selling drinks. IMAF is Saturday, July 18, from 12 pm to 8 pm. Click the button below to sign up as a volunteer and get a free t-shirt and meal ticket. Learn more about IMAF here.
PS PS stands for Pleasant Street in Fountain Square, where musician Josie Aalsma grew up. Josie wrote this song as a previous Harrison Center intern. This summer, we have another Fountain Square intern, Hogan Hickman. Hogan created this hand-drawn animation music video for the song and interspersed it with childhood videos provided by neighbors.
