Your Porch Parties, No. 1
Well, you did it! We asked you to join us in hosting a city-wide porch party on July 13th and we were overwhelmed by the response. Thanks to those of you who have sent us photos and accounts of the day. We'll be sharing many of them here. So, enjoy! And if you haven't had a porch party of your own, what are you waiting for?
Ever since I read the advertisement for "Porch Party" in the local downtown magazine provided for all residents, spilling out news and events happening in the community, I marked my calendar right away. There was no way I could miss a community-wide porch party and one was definitely happening at 423 N. College! As someone with a very limited backyard, but enjoying the downtown life, our porch is a very special place in the summer. Four lawn chairs, (two comfortable, two uncomfortable) and some leopard padded dining chairs can seat many people comfortably and allow us to enjoy the outside air. The feeling of summertime on College Avenue and watching auto and pedestrian traffic makes for a great relaxing time.
A trip to Costco provided juicy burgers and hot dogs to cook on our mini grill. In the kitchen, drinks, condiments, and potatoes lined up a buffet for everyone to make their summer plate perfect. With the world cup game going on, we had speakers to the porch so we could know what was going on. Good drinks brought funny conversations.
This is our time when we grow and learn from each other. Chatting about everything from personal life to business life is how we connect as a community. Our times on this porch are ones we'll cherish forever.
