Your Porch Parties, No. 3

Well, you did it! We asked you to join us in hosting a city-wide porch party on July 13th and we were overwhelmed by the response.  Thanks to those of you who have sent us photos and accounts of the day. We’ll be sharing many of them here. So, enjoy! And if you haven’t had  a porch party of your own, what are you waiting for?

I say "no" a lot.  Just ask my kids.  I'm not a spontaneous person.  If I'm going to do something, especially social, I need to prepare myself and have everything planned perfectly.  I've actually gotten tired of hearing "no" so often from myself, though, so I've been working on just saying "yes".  "Yes" just requires more work and is sort of a difficult place for me to step into.

I wanted to plan a porch party, but never got around to it.  Plus, we had a little birthday party on Saturday for our daughter, and I'm very introverted with a very extroverted job that I work on the weekends, and well, that was enough reason to not have a party.  But, Sunday afternoon I thought about what I would regret more on Monday, not spending time with friends, or not getting work done on Sunday that needed to be done and not having my very sought after alone time.  So I invited some friends over, put out leftover birthday party food, and stepped out into spontaneity.  It wasn't fancy.  We had snacks, pb & j, cake, soda, and a whole lot of fun.

Monday morning I caught up on the dishes, laundry and reading with no regrets. I got to spend a beautiful evening with ladies and kiddos that I love.
