Your Porch Parties, No. 8

Well, you did it! We asked you to join us in hosting a city-wide porch party on July 13th and we were overwhelmed by the response.  Thanks to those of you who have sent us photos and accounts of the day. We’ll be sharing many of them here. So, enjoy! And if you haven’t had  a porch party of your own, what are you waiting for? Nick 2

We invited our whole street to our Porch Party on July 13th by way of distributing flyers to our neighbors.

We were not sure if many  would come as we invited many people we didn't know, but they did. Neighbors brought food and drink and sat and visited for hours. They watched as graffiti artist Nick Smith did a mural on canvas of our view of the skyline from Holy Cross.

The party was scheduled for 3-5 but the last guest did not leave until 7:30. Everyone had a great time, and loved the idea.

We had eleven neighbors join us for the City Wide Porch Party at our home on 2052 N Alabama St.  Our newest neighbors, Phil and Kathy Bryant, joined us along with our longest neighbor, Ron Schouten.  After 33 years living in Herron-Morton Place we wonder why we didn’t think of having a porch party sooner!

Our discussions ran the gamut from the early days and tales of prostitutes walking our streets to present day of our sidewalks filled with families with children and pets walking to  and from our park.  Simple food, cold drinks and wonderful conversations filled our afternoon.
