This month, in partnership with the Spirit & Place Festival, we asked artists to ponder the question: "What is 'home' and what does it mean to us?" We often think of home as the building that offers us refuge from the world, or as the people who call us their own. But what if the essence of home runs deeper than bricks and mortar or a cast of characters? What if the spirit of a place is what makes it “home?” Herman B. Wells, the legendary president of Indiana University, certainly thought so.

Guest curated by Andrew Christenberry, Graduate Research Assistant to Dr. Richard Gunderman, Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, this exhibit includes work from over a dozen artists who have offered up what they believe to be the essence of “home in Indiana." Our hope is that these interpretations will spark discussion surrounding what the spirit of home in Indiana truly is. Join in the conversation this Friday, November 4 when the show opens with an artist reception in the City Gallery from 6 to 9pm. The work hangs through November 23.
