August 2015: Al Mutanabbi Street Coalition
The Harrison Center for the Arts and the IUPUI University Library are pleased to present selected works from the Al Mutanabbi Street Coalition collection. This collection supports and promotes awareness to the important mission and framework of the Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here Coalition’s focus on the lasting power of the written word and the arts in support of the free expression of ideas, the preservation of shared cultural spaces, and the importance of responding to attacks, both overt and subtle, on artists, writers, and academics working under oppressive regimes or in zones of conflict despite the destruction of that literary/cultural content.
The Harrison Gallery features Paper Routes, a collection of works on paper by Heidi Jensen, Christina Hollering, Erin Huber, Minda Douglas, Danielle Rante, Lauren Kussro, Dominic Senibaldi, Lorie Lee Andrews, and Christa Roby. This exhibit shows the range of the medium from large works to very small, some experimental, others more sculptural in nature.
The City Gallery welcomes back painter Tyler Meuninck with his show, The Merchants’ Locus. "Meuninck’s work subsumes observations of metropolitan neighborhoods and industry, and uses both traditional and experimental methodologies.“ The City Gallery shows art that celebrates urban Indianapolis neighborhoods.
The work hangs through August 28.
In the courtyard, five finalists compete for $10,000 in Look Indy: The City is Your Classroom, the latest in the 5x5 Indy Ideas Competition series. Local duo, Dream Chief performs. Register to attend here: bit.ly/1L26ckm
