July 2015: FoodCon V

July 3 in the Harrison Center courtyard, it’s the return of our unconventional convention, FoodCon, celebrating the art and culture of food in Indiana. FoodCon V will convene a wide and exciting variety of local food enthusiasts. Attendees will learn about raising goats, composting, solar cooking, foraging, hydroponics and even cooking on a car engine. Local food trucks including Scratch, Duos, Nicey Treat, SpiceBox and the Flying Cupcake will be on site to provide a variety of tasty food options. Musical performances will take place in the courtyard throughout the evening by Asheville, North Carolina’s Hannah Kaminer and Indy’s own Luke Tuttle (Dream Chief). In the Harrison Gallery, the Harrison Center is proud to present "Fleeting Youth," new work by Emma Overman. Overman works primarily with acrylics to entertain children and nostalgic adults. Her work has been called "innocent yet otherworldly." While her inspirations are many, Overman is a strongly internal person. She most loves to experiment with colors and mood.

The City Gallery features "Porch Party," a group show celebrating the art of outdoor entertaining and the upcoming second annual City-Wide Porch Party to take place on Sunday, July 12. The show includes work by local artists Justin Vining, Kristin Divers, Kyle Ragsdale and Nathan Foxton.

Quincy Owens and Luke Crawley, whose light and sound sculptures are currently on display at White River State Park, enter into new territory with their show, "Toujours, Pas Encore" in Gallery No. 2. “The show serves as a continuation in Luke’s and my fascination with light,” said Owens, “but this is the first time that the lights themselves will constitute the sculptures.”

Hank & Dolly’s Gallery features “Endangered Animals,” by recent Pike High School graduate, Molly Denning. Denning created this 3D art series of recyclable or reused materials as a way to call attention to both endangered animals and the importance of preserving the environment.

The work hangs through July 31.
